I spent the last 72 hours spreading as much of my joy as I could around the greater Philadelphia area. Beside driving, I spent my weekend visiting with family, attending my niece’s 5th birthday party, having dinner with my dad and friends in south Philly, bar hopping in Center City with old college buddies and attending the First Holy Communion of my cousin’s son. Not only is that tiring to type, it’s tiring to cram into a long weekend. It’s because of this that I’m opting to go for a bulleted list of highlights and lessons.
- Kids have a lot of freaking energy. Shame we can’t harness that for a power source.
- Having a real conversation with a 5 year old is a strange and wonderful thing.
- It seems Melissa and I are seen as one in the same these days. I suppose that’s expected after 13 years, but I was still surprised at the number of comments about me traveling alone.
- I am too old to split a couch with two pit bulls and sleep well. Actually, I’m too old to sleep most places and sleep well these days.
- No matter how much things change, they pretty much stay the same. This is especially true if you’re talking about 9 guys who went to college together 10+ years ago “accidentally” spending a night drinking together.
- The scales are at or just past the tipping point of the “Has Kids” side for my college friends.
- My Yelp obsession is known far and wide.
- Church is a lot more lax than it was when I was younger. I was astonished at the number of people who had jeans or shorts on during mass. Maybe I would have hated it less as a kid if I didn’t have to wear that stuffy clothing. Eh, probably not.
- After reading some of their handout materials, I’m still sure the Catholic Church isn’t for me.
- Most people seem to appreciate my playoff beard, even if it is scraggly. I actually had someone say they liked it ’cause it made me “look more ethnic.” Thanks, I guess?
- I am growing really, really tired of living in the DC metro area.
- My BlackBerry Bold is less suck now that AT&T released OS6 for it, but I still can’t wait to get rid of it.
- I’m pretty sure the Caps and Flyers aren’t making it to the next round.
- I. Am. So. Damned. Tired.
