I still have the 2018 trip to Colorado on my To Do, but here’s 2019 in Oregon while you wait. We wanted to dial it back a bit this year, both to save money and save on vacation days, so we picked the Deschutes near Maupin. I think the river was way tamer than any of were expecting, even though we made a conscious choice to reign it in. I’d do it with family, but I think there are quite a few family-friendly rivers in WA (read: shorter drive). We still had a good time getting away for two days, drinking beers in The Dalles, and staring at the barren nature while roasting in 90° weather. Next year, we’ll be turning the excitement level back up a notch. The good news is no one died… although someone almost lost their eyes to an allergic reaction. Oh, and I got to sleep outside, under the sky, half in my sleeping bag, and there were no bugs. Awesome!
