Evidently I have one. A few years ago, when I was just into the swing of things at the gym, I hurt my shoulder doing tricep pull-downs with improper form. I had x-rays at the time, which were negative, and was told I should just rest it for awhile. I took a couple months off at the gym, didn’t do anything strenuous with that arm, but things never seemed to heal 100%. A year and a half later, unable to lift my arm above my head without pain, I decided it was time to get it looked at.
A few exams and an MRI later, I’m told I have a SLAP tear and some fraying of the rotator cuff. Given the legnth of time since injury, the doc says surgery is probably the only thing that’s going to provide long term relief. Whenever I’m ready, they’ll go in and clean everything up in there and send me on my way. No surgery is risk-free but the prognosis is good for a quick recovery. A few weeks in a sling, a couple months with limited mobility and then I’ll be as good as new! I’ll probably look to have surgery after school is over and use the slow holidays to my healing advantage.
Speaking of the gym, I suppose I owe an update since we’re approaching the 3 year anniversary of my Living Healthy campaign. I don’t have any super recent pictures, but I am attending a wedding this weekend, so maybe I’ll get some then. Stay tuned.
Sounds shitty. GL with that!
