It had been months since we saw a movie in the theater so with a week until Iron Man’s release, we went to see Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Knocked Up was funny, Superbad was funny so this would be funny, right? Well, let’s just say it was the weakest of the three. I don’t know if it was the two hour length, the fact that we were two of the seven people in theater (funny is contagious) or if Jason Segel’s writing isn’t completely up to snuff but it wasn’t as funny as I wanted it to be. It’s got quite a few laughs and is worth renting, but I’m not sure I’d recommend it at $8/person.
The Good:
- Funny at times with most jokes including adult overtones or subject matter.
- Russell Brand and Jack McBrayer play the funniest characters despite neither being one of the three major roles.
- Mila Kunis is really hot.
- Kristen Bell is really hot.
The Bad:
- Two hours is too long for a film of this nature.
- I don’t buy Jason Segel as anything. He’s amusing in How I Met Your Mother but plays my least favorite character in both it and this movie.
- For some reason Segel saw fit to write in full frontal nudity of himself… more than once. Now I’m all for tossing something in for the ladies but the closest you get to something for the men are a few pictures of breasts. Where’s the equality here!?
Now imagine a couple of middle-aged parents going to see a “nice comedy” like this one. My mom said she screamed; I wonder if they’ll ever see something on a whim again.
