Need a way to convert those YouTube videos you’ve downloaded? Need to convert a video containing a codec you can’t seem to find? Need a quick way to compress a video without using the likes of Windows Movie Maker? If you’re rockin’ a PC, SUPER is the answer. It will convert pretty much anything to anything, supports batch jobs and is available via free download.
I stumbled upon it about a year ago, during its beta, after saving some flv files from YouTube. SUPER was really buggy then and I somewhat forgot about it. I rediscovered it recently when looking for a way to convert AVIs from a Canon digital camera to a codec Sony Vegas recognizes. The bugs appear to gone and it works as promised so I think it’s here to stay.
I’m not sure why it didn’t make Lifehacker’s Top 10 Free Video Rippers, Encoders and Converters but it should be there. A lot of the comments for the article mention it so I guess that says something. I’ve only used one of the programs in that list so I can’t speak to any comparisons. If you’re in the market, give it a try.
