I know they haven’t won a playoff game under him but I really would have liked to see him finish out his contract. Included below are the reasons why I wanted him to stay for one more year.
- Romo. He spent a good part of last year with Bledsoe. I think a full year of Parcells for Romo would have been a good thing, even if they didn’t suddently become great next year. Romo would have benefitted in the long run.
- TO. I think he did an effective job at controling, or at least mitigating, the TO crap this past year. TO wasn’t outstanding this year but a lot of what he did won’t show up in his stats. Check Glenn’s and Clayton’s stats to see what I’m talking about. I fear a new coach may allow TO to blow up like we all know he’s going to.
- Momentum. Maybe I’m still drinking the Kool Aid but I thought they had some decent momentum this year. Yeah they choked at the end but it looked like they might have had some building blocks in place.
- Legacy. Maybe he’s past his prime but he’s the first coach since Jimmy that I’ve actually respected. I think he still had something to prove and now he may end up with a legacy the likes of Chan Gailey. Besides, how could you let that heartbreak in Seattle be the last game on your career?
Perhaps it’s for the best but only time will tell. I enjoyed his gruff, no nonsense attitude and will be sad to see him go. Thanks for the last four years Bill.
