Today marks the start of the playoffs in the NFL. That means another year is in the books for Fantasy football so here’s the breakout of all my performances. Things could have definitely been worse but as you’ll see, they really should have been better.
Father/Son League
This really isn’t a father/son league but that’s what I call it. My dad’s been in the league for as long as I can remember and I think the league itself is 18 y/o. I joined a few years ago to fill an empty spot and ended up starting a trend. There are now 3 father/son combinations in the league, which is pretty cool considering that’s 6 of the 10 teams. Anyway, I started 7-1 and ended up just skating into the playoffs with two wins over my old man. I had to play him the first round of the playoffs and won that one as well. I lost in the big game but he won his so we finished 2nd and 3rd, which was neat.
Record: 10-6 (.625)
Points: 3rd
Finished: 2nd
Financials: 125 entry + 22 transactions – 312 winnings = 165
AOL League
This one really doesn’t require much explanation other than it was my first year. I didn’t know what the entry fee was or that there was a charge for transactions but oh well. Work leagues can be fun but after starting 4-4 I lost the last 5 and finished dead effin’ last… definitely not fun.
Record: 4-9 (.308)
Points: 12th
Finished: 12th
Financials: 60 entry + 15 transactions = 75
Car Enthusiast League
A league of various amateur racers that really only talk via the internet. The nature of the league means there’s no cash at stake, just bragging rights. I played this year after two off and my main goal was to make the playoffs, which I did. Unfortunately I ended up losing to my “arch nemesis” so things could have been better.
Record: 9-5-1 (.633)
Points: 4th
Finished: 5th
Financials: n/a
Family Pick’em
This is probably the most annoying part of the season. There are eight of us in league, we play with spreads and this is the first year we played for money. I was leading by 7 games (largest lead for anyone all season), with my always wins everything cousin in 3rd place 10 games behind me with three weeks to play. Week 15 I dropped five games and another three in week 16. Tied with my mom for the lead with one week to go, my cousin predicted he would “pull off the great comeback in history” despite being two games behind us. Week 17? I got six right, my mom got seven and my cousin got 10. Echoes of “I can’t believe he won” were heard around the league as he, the winner, took the remaining pot after weekly winner awards. I only needed a marginal performance in the last few weeks and I couldn’t even manage that. I choked… big time.
Finished: 3rd
Financials: 34 entry – 4 winnings = 30
AOL Survival 1
Pick a winning team, make it to next week. Pick a loser and you’re done for good. Did I mention you can only pick any given team once? I was doing great until I trusted Pittsburgh to beat Oakland in week eight. Screw the Steelers.
Streak: 6 games
Finished: T-2nd
Financials: 5 entry = 5
AOL Survival 2
League 1 ended in week 8 so we played a second round. I should have just kept my $5.
Streak: 0 games
Finished: T-13th
Financials: 5 entry = 5
Bottom Line
Like I said, could have been better and could have been worse. In a word; bittersweet.
Record: 23-20-1 (.573)
Financials: 165 – 75 – 30 – 5 – 5 = $50
