Living Healthy: 18 Months
I got called out for not posting one of these in awhile and rightfully so, I suppose. Without doing an uber-search, it looks like it's been the better part of 6 months since I've done of these. I did a few "biking to work" posts in that time but I don't think I've really updated where I'm at.
The good news is I'm still going to the gym. My motivation really took a hit last October, when there were layoffs at work, and I'm sure I took some time off during the holidays. I've managed to get back into a routine and after our last few trips, settled back into a twice a week routine. I took a month off in the week during/surrounding Japan but since I walked ~75 miles while there, I'm okay with that. That didn't make my return to lifting any less painful, though.
The needle, as it were, really hasn't moved as much as I've wanted... or at all really . I try not to fixate on the number, but it's tough to be doing something (albeit not a ton) and not see that move. It helps that people who haven't seen me in awhile noticed my efforts and people who see me on a somewhat regular basis said I looked thinner after Japan. I'm happy to report that I'm officially off medication for high blood pressure and that's good stuff.
Regarding that dreaded number, I've set a goal for myself because of some upcoming events. Well, I haven't so much set it but rather signed up for things that charge you extra for being over a certain weight. Either I drop 15 pounds in the next 5 months or I'm gonna be paying out the arse to skydive in NJ and take a helicopter volcano tour at my buddy's wedding in Hawaii. There's probably no better motivator than money. That's a lie... self-respect is the greatest motivator, not money.
On the equipment front, I've obtained two new items. In listening to my Japanese podcasts before the trip, I realized I couldn't just cram my Pearl in my pocket. Since I've decided to start listening to music on it (note: I've severely underestimated the value of listening to your own music at the gym), I picked up a cheapo belt clip. No, I don't wear it outside the gym (it lives in my bag) and I actually cover it with my shirt so you can't even see it in the gym.
I'm not going to become a clip-wearing-crackberry-addict because I hate those people... you have my word. The second item I picked up was a new gym bag. I've never had a gym bag and the duffel I'm using is ratty as hell in it's primary colors of purple and green. It doesn't keep my stuff sorted, has threads that get caught in the zipper and looks like it belongs on an episode of Saved by the Bell. In keeping with my recent habits, I picked up something made by High Sierra. They make some seriously quality bags and luggage, so I figured a gym bag made by them couldn't hurt. I don't really own a weekend bag so I figure it couldn't hurt to have something like this anyway. I actually haven't gotten it yet so I'll have to report back, if you even care.
Happy Easter to those who celebrate and Happy Weekend to those who don't!

The wife had originally gotten me helicopter pilot lessons but they dropped that vendor so Imma use it for skydiving. It's only 45 minutes from AC so I might make a weekend out of it.
