Movie: Simpsons
I went to see The Simpsons Movie this past weekend and the fact that it's taken me until Wednesday to write a review should tell you something. Actually, lets back up for a minute. I should preface this by saying I also saw Live Free or Die Hard and that's not even worthy of it's own post. It was entertaining at times but way too long. I liked the first three, each for a different reason, but this didn't really do it for me. It's worth a rental but that's about it.
Okay so back to the Simpsons. I hadn't heard much about it going in and I have to admit that I was more excited to see Transformers this summer. I was pretty stoked for the first 5-10 minutes but it quickly wore off. I was watching a Simpsons movie, in the theatre and that was just plain cool. After that novelty subsided I realized that I really wasn't enjoying myself as much as I wanted. The movie itself felt like one long episode and it wasn't even that funny. There were some amusing parts and I did laugh but it's nowhere near what I've come to expect from the franchise. Actually, it's a lot like their episodes of late... just plain okay. I'm enough of a fan that I have Simpsons checks and were I to buy the DVD I'm not even sure I'd watch it. That should tell you something. I say go see if you're into the Simpsons just to see it on the big screen but if you're not a huge fan, just rent it.
I was going to write a diatribe about annoying people and what's wrong with America in reference to people in the theatre but I've decided not to. Let's just say that the rest of the world's perception that we're fat, lazy, stupid and ignorant didn't come out of nowhere.
