Baltic Cruise: Day 9 – At Sea
With a scheduled day at sea we elected to sleep in and not preplan anything for day nine. We had lunch at the outdoor grill before moving to the casino for low limit gaming. The casino was relatively dead but I managed to break even after a half hour of blackjack and Melissa lost $10 plus my free voucher on two slot tournament entries. My step-dad actually got the highest qualifying score the tournament host had ever seen and my sister also made it to the finals. They did nothing of significance in the final round and someone else walked away with the $500 prize.
To breakup our gambling, we actually hit the ship’s gym for a workout. With the end of vacation looming, I’d started to feel the guilt of eating like a glutton and not really counteracting it in any way. We’d actually done a lot of walking to this point so it wasn’t that bad, but there’s just something about going to the gym on vacation that makes you feel better about yourself. However, eating three and a half petite lobster tails and a beef Wellington for dinner that night didn’t help matters any.
Note: This post is part of a series about a recent cruise in the Baltic Sea. They are [being] published in chronological order and if you haven’t read the introduction post I encourage you to do so. (I moved this piece here in case you feed some of the content.)
After dinner it was time for… more gambling! I played 3/6 limit Hold ‘Em Poker and won $20 but then lost it and another $80 at the craps table. Craps had been good to me the whole cruise so I was itching to play. I have a rule against playing craps alone and I paced for awhile waiting for someone else to play. Finally I couldn’t take it any longer and jumped in, alone. The $100 was gone it no more than 10 minutes and it left me feeling empty. I don’t mind losing money as long as I have a good time and that was definitely not a good time. After my money ran dry, I spent a good half hour watching my step-dad play Three Card Poker. He was on a relatively hot streak so towards the end of the night gave me $15 (one hand) to play. I played the first hand blind and got a pair, doubling my money. I played the second hand after looking at it but lost it. I was back to the original $15 so I decided to play blind again. Dani (who reminded me of Alyssa Milano and with whom my fascination had become a family joke) was actually the dealer at the time so I asked her to reveal my cards slowly. She obliged and as she did an ace, two and three of clubs revealed themselves bit by bit. At a final payout of 47 to 3 I cashed in on the $235 win and called it quits. I gave the original $15 back to my step-dad, with no interest, gave $5 to the dealer and pocketed the rest. [Running total: +$53]
